Arab Spring continues to affect cruise operators

16 September 2013

Costa Crociere has announced cancellations to all its autumn and winter calls in the Egypt and Red Sea region.

The move reflects continuing uncertainty among cruise operators and passengers about operating in countries affected by current political and social upheaval.

Alternative itineraries have been set for the Middle East with calls at Dubai, Muscat and Khasab, Oman and Abu Dhabi. In a press release, the operator remained hopeful that its Egyptian cruises would resume in future.

In a statement, Costa said that it will restore calls to Egyptian ports as soon as the social and political environment stabilises, and the cruise line can ensure the safety and security of its guests.
