With a turnover of more than 70 ships a year, San Giorgio del Porto and Chantier Naval de Marseille are a ship repair and conversion pole in the heart of the Mediterranean, strategically located in Genoa and Marseille, close to major Mediterranean cruise terminals, operating eight dry-docks and more than 2km of equipped repair quays.
San Giorgio del Porto and Chantier Naval de Marseille represent a consolidated ship repair and conversion pole in the heart of the Mediterranean. The yards count on approximately 280 employees, 140 based in Genoa and 140 based in Marseille. The yards take advantage from the proximity of a large cluster of qualified subcontractors, service engineers, fine artisans and interior outfitters available at very short notice. The main language used and practiced by all the management staff, foremen and many of the execution level personnel is English.
SGdP and CNdM always dedicate a ship manager, senior member of the staff full time on the vessel to work in close coordination with the owner's representative. This figure is the yard representative during the project and is fully backed up to top management who remains available to sort out difficult situations. The ship manager deals with contractual, technical and financial members, and remains always closely connected and available to the owner's representative. On each ship, the ship manager is supported by the quality department. This close coordination results in a close follow-up of cost and quality, and a good reactivity to additional needs as well as continuous technical reporting, immediately transmitted to owner's representative during the whole project. The shipyards also maintain a in house skilled level foremen in all specialties, allowing an excellent follow up of the related subcontractors. If required each yard teams can be complemented by the capabilities and resources of the sister company
Ship Repair and Maintenance Ship repair and maintenance are the core business of the yards with a long tradition in these fields. From scheduled and planned dockings to unexpected emergency operations, from little tugs to the new giants of the sea, SGdP and CNdM have the facilities, the necessary teams and the technical know-how to carry out any kind of repairs on all types of vessels. All vessel sizes and types are most welcome and treated with equal importance, sense of urgency, care and attention. However, given the size of our dry docks and deep draft entrance, the yard traditionally accommodates the larger segment of vessels. Based on our strong experience, we offer a full range of services for any type of vessel, including cruise ships and liners, LNG Tankers, oil tankers, semi-submersibles, offshore construction vessels, shuttle tankers, ro-ro vessels and ferries.
Refitting and Conversions CNdM, together with its partner companies SGdP, is able to provide fully customised refitting services and conversion operations. Whether the owner wants to give a new look to his old vessel, renew or revamp existing areas, increase the ship's capacity and improve its efficiency, our teams are able to design, manage and execute any complex project. Working closely to our customers we succeed to perform extensive refurbishment of accommodation areas, scrubber installation, pod modification, together with overhauls of technical systems and superstructures or hull modifications.
The increasing development of cruise business in the Mediterranean, as well as the always larger size of container ships, are giving new perspectives to this giant dry-dock. On June 2012 Société d'Exploitation de la Forme10, a subsidiary company of Chantier Naval de Marseille, signed with the Port of Marseille a long term concession as the exclusive operator of «Forme 10» (sizes: 465m x 85m x 10.7m). The works to put back the giant dock in service have started in mid-2013 with the overhaul of the pumping system and the repairs of the lifting means (among which, a 150t capacity crane on rails). All networks (seawater, power, sewage, cutting gas...) are being carefully redesigned in order to provide the best possible service to the new type of vessels to be accommodated. "Forme 10" was back in service in October 2017
